Entrepreneurship has been at the heart of the life of Jacqueline Ruby Sackitey, Managing Director of the Jacquis, an agro-processing enterprise established back in 2008 While waiting for her Diploma in Business Studies results from the then Ho Polytechnic, she started trying her hands on the emerging textile industry of batik and tie and dye. She quickly enrolled at Gracie Fabrics at East Legon picking hands-on practical training and came out with the much-acclaimed Jacqui Fabrics brand. The Jacqui Fabrics label gained intense popularity and rose to lining several local and international shelves and clients. However, between 2004 and 2007 when the market became saturated Jacqueline moved on and added peanut butter processing. The peanut idea was borne out of constantly seeing female peasant farmers in northern Ghana lose out annually seeing their produce going bad or to middlemen who dictate cheap prices for their wares. Thus in 2008, Jacqueline registered Jacquis Peanut Butter, after undergoing vigorous training from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in Accra. Her mission was to fill the need of providing 100 percent quality peanut butter for clients, who hitherto had to contend with contaminated peanut butter on the local market, “Our long-term vision is to position ourselves as the preferred peanut butter at home and on the international market while providing sustainable employment for women peasant farmers in northern Ghana,” Jacqueline Ruby Sackitey, noted recently in a separate interview with the Ghana News Agency The Jacquis Peanut Butter brand today can be found in supermarkets across the region and growing steadily and consistently. Starting with just two employees, Jacqueline currently has eight employees operating at her factory on the Adenta-Dodowa road, with huge potential for jobs for women generally. Her other product line includes peanut butter, and ginger-coated peanut snacks and the popular Nutrimix Cereal. Jacquis is registered with the Registrar General’s Department and is also a member of the African Women Entrepreneurs Programme (AWEP), Ghana Export Promotion Authority, and the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Jacqueline is an industrious entrepreneur who is constantly dreaming up one business line or the other. She has a string of product lines ready to hit the market. According to her, “Our mission is to prove that we, women, are capable of transforming the face of agro-business in Ghana. She is also keen on seeing the upliftment of women in business and has been a helping hand to their development over the years.
