Mercy Esau, a Certified Information Systems Auditor, is the founder and Managing Director of Tilime Honey Produce (THP). THP has embedded itself in the honey value chain with a noble cause at its core. She started beekeeping as a strategy to protect the indigenous forests from environmental degradation. Currently she is in the process of restoration of 74 ha of land from degradation through re afforestation and bee keeping practices. What initially began as a strategy to safeguard indigenous forests from degradation evolved into the establishment of THP. The business now produces and packages natural honey, beeswax, and an array of other bee-related products from its own apiaries. Mercy is also a chairperson of her own established bee keeping community cooperative, She identified beekeeping as a locally appropriate livelihood-focused intervention that encourages communities to value and protect the forest and promote afforestation while also providing an alternative source of income.
